Not much to say today, but please enjoy these great engineering and computer science links!
- A TEDxNASA talk about next-generation biofuels. Our nation and even our world need good greengineers–anyone who builds more efficient systems, renewable fuels, or better methods for preserving Earth’s health!
- Another interesting thing for any prospective greengineers: read about humankind’s advancement towards a Type 1 Civilization. Read about the Kardashev scale and its creator, astronomer Nikolai Kardashev.
- News story about some Canadian teenagers who sent a LEGO man into space using a home-made parachute and stuff they bought on Craigslist. With video.
-
IBM engineers made a 9nm (nanometer) carbon nanotube transistor which is faster than even the fastest silicon transistors. Check out our video post about what transistors are.
- Cool video of the $25 Raspberry Pi computer’s code being updated live. That means changes in the code automatically get applied, as it’s running. Must-have-tool/toy for computer scientists and programmers. It’s scheduled to come out early this year (read: soon) and is designed specifically to be used in schools. Cheaper than a most programming textbooks; convince your CS/Science teachers to get a classroom’s worth!
- Funny story about the first computer passwords.
